Purpose and function of organisation:
The object of the Festival is to advance the education in the arts of music, speech and drama and dance, by annual festivals.  Also by promoting public performances, concerts and recitals.

The Festival environment
The Coalville Festival of Music is a registered charity administered by volunteers, and held in the public venues listed above.

To whom does this policy apply?
This policy relates to children under the age of 18 years and those vulnerable adults of any age who are identified to the co-ordinator at least 10 days before the start of the Festival.  In recognising the needs of children from minority ethnic groups and children who are disabled, the Festival actively seeks to meet needs notified to the Festival by parents, teachers or carers.

Preparation for attendance at the Festival
This policy is sent to parents to make it clear that, where they are not personally attending the Festival with their children, it is their responsibility to ensure that their child(ren) is accompanied by a responsible adult acting on their behalf, and that the child knows who this is.  Festival volunteers do not act in loco parentis.

Festival personnel
All Festival helpers are voluntary.  The Festival holds contact details of all personnel and all personnel have been issued with a copy of this policy.

All competition rooms will have more than one steward.  All stewards and helpers will wear badges and will be able to direct you to the co-ordinator who will deal with and document any matters relating to this policy.

Performance areas
There will be no specified changing areas.  Public toilets are available at venues, but are not supervised.  Stewards will be present in all performance areas but will not be held responsible, however they wil be alert to situations.  Teachers, parents and carers will be responsible for all their competitors.

Photographs, videotapes and photography
The use of audio or visual equipment is strictly forbidden.  Persons in charge of such equipment may be refused entry to the Festival.

Publicity photographs may be taken.  Where parents do not wish photographs to be taken, then the responsible adults attending with children are responsible for ensuring that children are not included in photographs.

Publicity photographs may be stored as Festival archives and may be used at a future date.

Policy review
The organisers will constantly review their policy, improving and enhancing it as necessary.  In doing this they will look to The British and International Federation of Festivals for support and that body in turn will look to other agencies for good practice, most notably the NSPCC and Arts Council of England policy guidelines.
